Citi hires HSBC banker as head of China global banking network

Luen-Yuan Chu will head the corporate banking of international companies operating in China.

Citi has hired Luen-Yuan “Lenny” Chu as China global network banking (GNB) head effective 11 August 2025.

GNB covers multinational corporations (MNCs), with Chu heading up the corporate banking of international companies operating in China.

Citi banks around 70% of the Fortune Global 500 with operations in China, the bank said in a statement.

“China is one of our key GNB franchises and Lenny will be responsible for delivering business growth in collaboration with internal partners and stakeholders. His competitive knowledge of and his experience in the China MNC business will be key to unlocking further potential of our China GNB franchise, “said Chris Wen, Citi China’s corporate banking head.

Chu will be based in Shanghai.

He brings over 20 years of multinationals banking experience and joins from HSBC China, where he was most recently head of regional client coverage, multinationals, global banking.
