CIMB appoints Munirah Khairuddin as CEO for CIMB-Principal Malaysia

CIMB Group announced the appointment of Munirah Khairuddin as Chief Executive Officer for CIMB-Principal Asset Management (CIMB-Principal) Malaysia, and Pedro Esteban Borda as Chief Executive Officer, ASEAN Region for CIMB-Principal. The appointments have obtained approval from the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and are effective from 21 August 2013.

Munirah joined CIMB-Principal in November 2006. In her new role as CEO, she will continue to lead the company in providing asset management solutions, as well as investment management expertise in equity, fixed income, and money market instruments for clients in Malaysia.

In her time as Deputy CEO, Munirah was instrumental in the development of international business opportunities and institutional sales. In Malaysia, she oversees retail funds marketing, market development, and fund operations.

Under her ambit, the company has built a solid international client base, listed exchange traded funds (ETF) in Malaysia and Singapore, and developed products for regional distribution.

Munirah also played an integral part in the strategic business development initiatives of CIMB Wealth Advisors Berhad (CWA) as its Acting CEO. Apart from that, she has also served as a Director of CIMB-Principal since January 2012, and Commissioner of PT CIMB-Principal Asset Management in Indonesia since August 2011.

Prior to joining CIMB-Principal, she was a G7 economist and strategist for a Fortune 500 multinational oil and gas company, and a fixed income portfolio manager for emerging markets at Rothschild Asset Management in London.

With his appointment as CEO, ASEAN Region for CIMB-Principal, Borda will focus on regional business growth and competitiveness. Prior to joining the firm, he was the Country Head of Principal Financial Group Mexico, and has a wealth of experience in leading pension and mutual fund companies. He joined Principal Financial Group in 1996 as the Managing Director of Ethika EFJP S.A., a pension company in Argentina.

In 1999, he was relocated to Mexico to become the Managing Director of Principal Afore (Mexican Mandatory Pension business). In 2004, Borda was promoted to Country Head of Principal Financial Group Mexico.
