Nguyen Phuoc Thanh appointed deputy governor of State Bank of Vietnam

Formerly CEO of Vietcombank.

Thanh’s appointment was recently confirmed by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung following recommendations by the State Bank of Vietnam and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Thanh, 56, also a board member since 2008 at Vietcombank, the country’s fourth largest lender by assets. He replaces Tran Minh Tuan, one of six deputies to Governor Nguyen Van Binh, who retired June 1.

Thanh, a native of the Mekong Delta province of An Giang has a master's degree in business administration. He started his banking career in 1982 at the central bank’s An Giang branch.

He joined Vietcombank in 1991 and became CEO in 2008. In April shareholders reelected him as CEO for until 2018.
