
RBI Governor tells urban cooperative banks not to break depositors’ trust
Malhotra stressed the importance of maintaining high standards for customer service.
India’s top central banker told leaders of urban cooperative banks (UCBs) to be mindful of their responsibilities and depositors’ trust.
In a meeting with the chairmen, managing directors, and CEOs of select UCBs, the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra stressed the importance of maintaining high standards of customer service to build and retain trust, according to a statement posted on the central bank’s website.
Malhotra said that the RBI will continue to support the sector in its growth ambitions.
He also advised UCBs to ensure that they remain operationally resilient including against IT and cyber-related risks.
Deputy Governors, Shri M. Rajeshwar Rao and Shri Swaminathan J., along with Executive Directors-in-Charge of Regulation and Supervision, also attended the event.
Representatives from industry bodies such as the National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation Limited (NUCFDC) and National Federation of Urban Co-operative Banks & Credit Societies Limited (NAFCUB) also participated in the meeting.
