Taiwanese banks extend more loans in August

The average NPL ratio remained the same as the month prior.

Taiwanese banks extended $8.64b more loans in August whilst the ratio of bad loans declined, according to data from the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC).

Total outstanding loans given out by 38 domestic banks was $1.29t by the end of August 2024.

Non-performing loans totalled $2.02b, lower by $10.46m.

The average NPL ratio of 38 banks remained at 0.16%, the same as in July, but 0.01 percentage point higher than in August 2023.

The coverage ratio of allowances for NPLs rose by 14.18 percentage points to 864.33% in August from 850.15% in July.
