Taiwanese banks’ outstanding loans and NPLs declined in May

The coverage ratio rose during the month.

Loans held by Taiwanese banks decreased by $10.99b (NT$329b) in May 2025 to $1.43t (NT$42.94t) compared to a month earlier, according to data from the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC).

The non-performing loans (NPLs) of banks declined by $0.06b (NT$1.76b) to $2.23b (NT$66.83b) from a month earlier.

Coverage ratios of allowances for NPLs increased by 14.88 percentage points and rose to 861.42%, from 846.54% in April 2025.
