OCBC appoints Lim Khiang Tong as new Group Chief Operating Officer
He will lead the bank’s use of technology, data, and design to develop financial solutions.
OCBC has appointed Lim Khiang Tong to its newly created role Group Chief Operating Officer (Group COO), effective starting 21 June.
The Group COO is expected to drive and accelerate transformation, building up on the bank’s “innovations and transformation” in the use of technology, data and design to develop solutions and individualized customer journeys.
Prior to his new role Lim, 59, served as OCBC’s executive vice president and head of group operations & technology. He will continue to oversee his existing portfolio of responsibilities including the operations and technology functions.
In particular OCBC said that Lim will also focus on “intensifying the bank’s capability building and competency alignment in technology, data science and analytics and design.”
Lim has over 30 years of management experience in strategic technology development, information technology, process reengineering, project management and banking operations. He joined the bank’s IT Management team in 2000 and was appointed head of IT management in January 2002.
He was promoted to EVP and head of group information technology in December 2007, and in May 2010 assumed the role of head of group operations and technology.
Amongst his biggest contribution to the bank is his role in the development of the OCBC Regional Data Centre –touted the first purpose-built data centre to be owned by a Singapore-based bank.
