BOCHK warns against remittance phishing email

The email reportedly intends to steal customers’ data.

The Bank of China (Hong Kong) is warning against a remittance phishing email claiming to be from the bank.

The email reportedly intends to steal customers’ data.

BOCHK has declared that it has no connection to the email, and has reported it to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)  and the Hong Kong Police Force.

In a separate statement the HKMA reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks which direct them to the banks’ websites to carry out transactions.

Banks will not ask customers for sensitive personal information, such as login passwords or One-Time Password, by phone, email or SMS (including via embedded hyperlinks), the HKMA said.
