Teradata to build data warehouse of Huishang Bank

Huishang Bank, China’s first joint-stock commercial bank originating from the restructuring of city commercial banks and urban credit cooperatives, has selected Teradata Corporation to build its enterprise data warehouse (EDW). The EDW will address regulatory requirements in operations, risk management, and capital management.

Teradata, the world’s largest company focused on raising intelligence through data warehousing, data warehouse appliances, consulting services and enterprise analytics, was chosen by Huishang Bank to be its EDW project partner after a rigorous evaluation process. Banking on the superior massive parallel processing capabilities of Teradata’s solutions, Huishang Bank will integrate customer, operations and financial data from its major business systems into a centralised Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse. The active EDW chosen by Huishang Bank will provide a single view of the business which can facilitate enhanced operations and management through enterprise intelligence. It will also support existing and future applications throughout the bank once it is implemented. Timely and accurate reporting will also be provided in compliance with the China Banking Regulatory Commission’s 1104 regulations.

Simon Yang, vice president of Teradata in the greater China area, said, "We are honored to join the largest IT infrastructure project undertaken by Huishang Bank this year. This is the beginning of a strategic partnership between Teradata and China’s city commercial banks. Teradata will assist the Bank with its information services system planning and implementation by providing powerful world-class solutions for fast, accurate and detailed data management capabilities. We are dedicated to supporting their business development with Teradata best practices and innovative business insights."

Huishang Bank, with the expansion of its businesses, is facing several challenges including the increasing growth of data from separate business systems, inconsistent data and complex data management, as well as the inability to transform existing data into effective information to support decision making. With Teradata technology, it is estimated that the time to process deposit and loan reports will decrease by as much as 30 percent. The improved reporting will provide detailed data at any point of time enhancing management efficiency.

The first phase of the project will address the urgent demands of all business departments and branches through the deployment of the EDW and critical applications. The initial system’s total capacity is 12 terabytes of data. Huishang Bank will also implement the Teradata Financial Services Logical Data Model, a customised physical data model, and a metadata management solution for all data stored in the systems with the help of Teradata Professional Services. The Teradata BAR (backup, archive and recover) solution will also be deployed, while the second phase will integrate additional business unit data and applications.

Huishang Bank has a total of 13 branches, three directly-managed sub-branches, and 160 banking institutions or outlets. The bank has achieved rapid growth in a variety of areas since its establishment in 2005 while supporting Huizhou business executives, municipal construction and urban enterprises.
