India’s UPI goes live at 4.5 million Cambodian merchants
Indian travellers can now pay via QR payments in Cambodia using their UPI app.
India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is now accepted by Cambodia’s merchants offering QR code payments, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said.
Indian travellers visiting Cambodia can now make QR payments to over 4.5 million merchants enabled with KHQR, the national QR standard in Cambodia, using their UPI applications.
This marks the first phase of collaboration between India’s NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and Acleda Bank.
The facility to enable Cambodia travellers to make UPI QR-enabled merchant payments in India will be part of the upcoming second phase.
RBI expects this move to reduce Indian citizens’ dependency in cash, and act as an alternative to payments using cards.
