Chart of the Week: Malaysian banks' system deposits still contracting 1.4%

There are no signs of deposits picking up.

According to Maybank Kim Eng, system deposits rose a marginal 1% YoY, which was the same pace of expansion as in Jul 2016.

"Positively, deposits have stopped contracting, but there is no growth. In fact, on an annualized basis, deposits are still contracting 1.4%. CASA expanded at a slower rate of 0.8% YoY in August versus 1.2% YoY in July."
