Credit card keyword searches in Australia skyrockets by 81%

Approximately 75% of keywords were related to activating a new credit card.

Australians using credit cards as keywords in online searches went up by 81% in 2022, according to a study by reward-based comparison platform Finty.

The study showed that almost all variations of ‘credit card’ used in keywords searches increased significantly versus in 2021.

Travel-related keywords experienced the strongest growth, up 53% on average from 2021 to 2022. 75% of keywords related to activating a new credit card also increased compared to a year ago.

One of the most popular keywords searches was ‘westpac low rate credit card’, which saw a 74% increase in 2022. This is followed by ‘velocity credit cards’ (73%), credit card offers (72%), and ‘nab rewards credit card’ (71%).

Meanwhile, keyword searches for ‘westpac activate card’ fell the most in 2022 at -312%. This is followed by ‘0 balance transfer’ (-136%), ‘balance transfer offers’ (-77%), and ‘0 interest credit card’ (-67%).
