Hang Seng Bank launches money lock feature

Money locked cannot be withdrawn or transferred via online or phone banking.

Hang Seng Bank has launched “Money Safe”, an anti-fraud and scam security feature under the guidance of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA).

Money Safe is an account that enables depositors to lock some of all of their deposits in. Money locked in this account cannot be withdrawn or transferred via online banking, phone banking, or ATMs.

To access or unlock the funds, customers must visit a Hang Seng branch in person for identity verification and additional authentication.

Cancelling the account or reducing the locked amount must also be done in-branch.

Customers who open a Money Safe account via the Hang Seng mobile app between 3 November 2025 up to 31 March 2026, and meet specific conditions, are eligible to enter the lucky draw. Two winners will receive a “Golden Fortune” Gold of Wealth Ornament, 10 winners may get a smart speaker, and 20 winners will get a HK$500 shopping e-voucher.

To qualify, customers must be aged 18 or above as of 1 November 2025 and maintain their Money Safe account until 31 March 2026.
