India’s Axis Bank names central bank ex-deputy governor as non-executive chairman

N.S. Vishwanathan will assume the role on 27 October, pending approval.

India’s Axis Bank has appointed N.S. Vishwanathan as the non-executive (part-time) chairman of the bank for a period of three years beginning 27 October.

Vishwanathan is a former deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, retiring in March 2020 after 19 years of service.

Outside of being a deputy governor for India’s central bank, Vishwanathan has also served as director of supervision at the Bank of Mauritius, and chief vigilance officer and head of internal audit with the Industrial Finance Corporation of India.

Vishwanathan also served as a board member at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) from July 2016 to March 2020.
