HSBC Q2 Outlook: Focus on pricing power moats, not market timing

The bank’s strategy urges private clients to ignore geopolitical shocks and focus on a six-month horizon of growth.

HSBC Private Bank advises private wealth clients to prioritise portfolio resilience through broad diversification rather than market timing, noting that geopolitical shocks are often temporary.

According to the bank’s Q2 2026 investment outlook, Changing Narratives, Continued Opportunity, it prefers growth-style stocks and companies with pricing power in the US and Asia, and recommends selective allocations to hedge funds and private markets.

Diversification across sectors, regions, bonds, currencies, commodities, and multi-asset strategies is highlighted as key to reducing concentration risk and improving portfolio stability.

Investors are encouraged to combine AI-related investments, such as semiconductors and electricity infrastructure, with cyclical sectors including industrials, financials, communication services, and materials.

Income strategies focusing on investment-grade and emerging market bonds can support returns amidst fewer expected rate cuts, according to the report, whilst alternatives like hedge funds, private markets, and multi-asset strategies help manage volatility and provide access to private innovation.

The report also identifies Asia as a source of growth and resilient income to strengthen US-heavy portfolios.

The outlook is based on a six-month horizon, with US- and Asia-led expansion expected to continue, whilst Europe lags but remains supported by fiscal measures.
