Cross-border shopping, e-wallets to shape Philippine payments in 2025
Evolving security frameworks will also redefine the payments experience, says Visa.
Cross-border e-commerce, global wallet connectivity, and better security frameworks will shape the future of Philippine payments in 2025, reports Visa.
The global payments brand projects a payments future that is more “seamless, secure, and interconnected” and outlined three key trends that will shape payments not just in the Philippines but globally.
Cross-border shopping is expected to gain further momentum in 2025. In 2024, nearly 1 in 5 Filipino shoppers now make an overseas e-commerce purchase every month, Visa said.
Filipino consumers shopping on cross-border e-commerce sites rose from 27% in 2023 to 34% in 2024.
Emerging technologies, such as video commerce, are set to enhance this experience further.
“Video-based shopping, which blends entertainment with transactions, offers a more interactive and engaging journey for buyers,” Visa said.
The second trend will involve “connected commerce”, which will enable Filipino enterprises to transact across borders thanks to global wallet connectivity and real-time payment options.
The final trend revolves around security, with the rise of AI-powered fraud prevention and machine learning to anticipate and neutralize cyber-attacks.
“By 2025, dynamic security frameworks will become best practice in helping to redefine the payment experience, blending cutting-edge technologies with consumer trust,” Visa said.
Generative AI is expected to continue its growth momentum and will be used in personalizing payment options.
Visa has invested more than $10b in AI and data infrastructure over the past 10 years, it said.
