E-ang bao use jumps nearly 50% in 2025 as seniors ditch red packets: OCBC

Nearly 8 in 10 seniors were first-time e-ang bao senders, OCBC said.

More Singapore seniors are adopting e-ang baos, embracing the contactless alternative to the traditional red packets.

The total number of e-ang baos sent by seniors during the Lunar New Year (LNY) period rose almost 50% year-on-year (YoY), according to data from OCBC. Seniors are customers aged 64 and above.

For the whole year of 2025, OCBC saw a 40% YoY increase in e-ang baos sent by senior customers. Nearly 8 in 10 were first-time senders, the bank said.

The S$100 amount is the most popular amongst seniors, with 1 in 10 choosing to give this amount throughout 2025.

More than 80% of e-ang baos sent in 2025 were given outside the first two days of the LNY, OCBC said.
